I just witnessed a man jump to his death in downtown Detroit. Today is also my birthday. A few questions:
Details: I went out for a birthday dinner with my family to a famous pizza restaurant. While walking down the street, a man, in his mid-40s, jumped off the roof of an 8 story parking structure of a local casino. Although my parents were looking the other way, I glanced in the direction and saw him fall and hit the ground. It was shocking and disgusting, seeing his head split open and blood on the ground. I called 911 right away, and police showed up on the scene shortly after. I gave my eye-witness account to the investigator and police, and left after talking with the 1 other witness.
Questions:
Any advice for dealing with such a situation? I do not want this to cause distress or mental problems.
Could I possibly sue the casino for emotional distress? They parking structure had a very low wall that had no safety mechanisms like a fence.
Any other things I should do, either for police or legal reasons?
