My theory about lighting glitches
Those dark patches in Minecraft have been around far too long for them to be mere coincidence. These MUST be the places where the endermen break into reality from the End.
For the longest time, my SP world was plagued by endermen. They would ruin my gravel road that ran through my base, put holes in the lawn, even steal from my pumpkin farm. I killed them all of course, but something didn't feel right.
I began a new world, playing in it for a couple days, built a base, got diamonds, went to the nether, got my enchanting table and potion stands up and running, before I realized something. I had not seen a SINGLE Enderman in this new world. Thinking it to be mere coincidence, I spent a night outside in full leather armor with an iron sword and bow, hoping catch a glimpse of one. I fought creepers, skeletons, zombies, and spiders, but I didn't see a single Enderman.
Thinking there was perhaps something wrong with the particular area my base was built in, I set off on a little journey. Before long (barely 400 blocks away) I stumbled upon at least 10 endermen! Spread out over about 100 blocks (several chunks), there were three groups, with four, four and two of them. I used the 4-block-high pillar method suggested on the Minecraft Wiki to kill them. A few minutes later, as the sun was rising, I spotted a black patch on a nearby mountain. Recognizing one of the dreaded lighting bugs, I decided to go remedy it. I placed a torch inside the dark area, causing it to disappear, then, satisfied, grabbed a few eggs from nearby chickens, and returned home.
That night, I became curious. I returned to the plain. I did not see one enderman.
So I went back to my first world. I found a huge black patch on the other side of the mountain that my base is built into. I lit it up. I saw only one enderman over the next eight game nights, all of which I spent hunting creepers around that mountain. I haven't seen any since.
Not conclusive proof but I truly think this says something.
TLDR: Found endermen near a lighting bug in large numbers, lit up the bug, and endermen stopped spawning near there. Went back to my other world (where there were TONS of endermen) and found a black patch on the other side of the mountain my base was on. I feel as though lighting bugs are a secret feature that Endermen use to teleport from the End to the overworld.
