Beginner to DayZ- any tips?

So i'm pretty much installing ARMAII / Operation Arrowhead as we speak, and I have the DayZ installer downloaded and ready for when it's done. I've been reading and watching this game for weeks now, and i'm wondering if some more experienced folk could give me some tips- what weapons/areas to avoid, ways to avoid being shot on sight, anything really! It's my first of this genre of game so tips on control layout would be cool too, as well as a good server for a brit to play. Thanks!
