Would the implementation of teaching youth altruism in school work?

Young minds are extremely susceptible to being influenced, then and, for the rest of their lives, to base actions of a pre-existing philosophical concept i.e. patriotism, religion. It becomes engrained in their mind. If we were to replace what they are taught, in terms of an ethical idea, could we make future generations more considerate?
