Friend needs some help.

She just bought her first PS3, and apparently she bought a controller that takes batteries(I didn't even know there were such things with a PS3). She says it didn't come with a USB cord, which I thought was the only way to connect a controller to the PS3. Is there another way? Or does she need to go back and get a cord?
