New Mic Shipped - Anything I should know?

I just ordered a Zoom H1 off of eBay, and it should arrive any day now. Is there anything I should know about the unit? Or infact considering this is my first piece of audio equipment that isn't a built-in mic, is there anything I should know about audio in general before I dive in? Of course I'm going to learn all about sound work eventually, but ideally some of that knowledge will come from this thread.
