Reddit, we are a massive machine. What can we do for the non-combatants in Syria?
Throw away account made for this honest question. We are a massive machine, reddit. Syria is a complicated mess, with no clearly-defined group to rally behind. The fact remains that thousands of little children are being ruthlessly tortured and slaughtered on a daily basis. Look at your kids, your nieces and nephews; they are the same as these babies. Think of yourself as a child and how horrified you would be. Reddit has a board that (while mocking like disgusting jerks) shows us the validity of these media-reported atrocities. I won't link to it because I hate the mockery, but the images without the snarky, disgusting text superimposed are formidable reminders that there are innocent people that need help. I can think of no more a formidable, mobile, intelligent and resourceful group than Reddit.
I don't care who is responsible. Assad, the rebels, I don't care. (Well, I do care, but this has no bearing on the urgent need to do something for these people)
It is also clear that one single country cannot go to war in Syria to aid in a revolution. It is civil war, spanning thousands of centuries. We can't fix it from the outside, nor should we.
The fact remains that little kids are getting caught up in this with horrifying results. Are we the generation that watches this happen and shakes our heads, changing the channel and flipping on to our social media to forget? I know there are those of us who would help, even at risk to our own safety. Those are kids. I know there are atrocities all over the globe like this, but we have to start somewhere.
I don't have answers, but I am a paramedic and I am a former soldier. Are there not others that would go, that would work to grant these families safe passage to refuge in Turkey? Are there not people here that have creative ideas, that have a deeper understanding of how a totally non-political human movement could help these little kids out? We are a force, reddit. We have built orphanages and rallied for cancer kids. Can we leave the politics out of it and find/fund a renegade transport team?
Anyone with ideas, with leads, with anything at all to offer... lets rise up as a human people and help protect these kids and elderly without getting involved in the conflict. It's nuts, it's going to be dangerous and difficult. Can we make an impact?
