It's never me.

Let me preface this as to say that there isn't much of a point to this thread. I just wanted a place to let me pour out my mind that won't reach anyone in my real life.

Now, my situation isn't too bad. I am a 30+ hour-per-week worker and a full-time university student (with an associates from community college). I have friends, whom I see in real life (no offense to those with only internet friends). So I am not here for a pity party as there are people in worse situations I've seen on here (no offense).

The issue lies is that I am so sick of always being that guy that girls are friends with or that guy who is only worthy of one night of fun, or that brotherly type. I am also sick of meeting tons of girls who "would have interest if [they] weren't in love with boyfriends that [they] were going with for X years." It just gets so deflating. When I was 18 (just finished high school, just entering the prime of his life, etc., etc.), I could never imagine three years later that I would be in the same situation (save one crappy relationship that lasted 3 weeks). I don't think I am that ugly. I make tons of witty observations that can make anyone laugh. But somehow, the women I meet will either gay (but not really gay) friend-zone me, or are already in committed relationships. And no, I don't want to try to get them to cheat. I abide by the bro-code 100%. It's just really frustrating, though. It's almost gotten to the point where I say to myself, "why bother" when I see an attractive girl. Obviously, she's going to be in a relationship or will only view me as a friend, like every other girl.

The worst part is that it seems like EVERYONE else is having some kind of good relationship. One of my friends, with bad teeth and no real plan of a good future, is in a relationship. I know someone else who is in his mid 20s who only works part-time as a ride operator (no college aspirations at this point, etc.) has a girlfriend who I couldn't imagine being with, even in my dreams. It's funny how an ambitious, not-horrible looking guy (in my humble opinion), nice guy can't get a committed relationship while nearly everyone else can. I'm not shy, either.

Do I have standards? Of course, I won't lie. But (in terms of physical attractiveness) it's not a 10 or 9. I've gone for many 7s and even 6.5s, all with failure (in terms of potential relationships). One-time flings mean shit to me now. I'm at a point of my life where I want to build a committed relationship with someone special. To be honest, I don't want lower my standards anymore. I'm not looking for a model, but I do have to be physically attracted to them.

Should I even try anymore? In the end, I will, because I don't want to end up FA, but it's times like this that just brings one to the brink of hope. I just get so jealous of hearing how Derp and Derpette had the best time on their vacation, or how Herp got Herpette pregnant and how they are going to have one big happy family. And these are people who went to my high school with me, or are around the same age as I am (+/- 3 years).

I am trying to give it some time and patience as I am 21, but I just feel like the peak of my life is going right by me in a blink of an eye, and I'm just standing them watching the clouds move by as my friends are finding their significant others.

TL:DR - I'm a 21 year old who is having doubts he will ever find 'the one.'
