Stupid Noob Coming to You for Help
I'll make this quick. I have been researching stereo setups for the past week or so and am just more confused than when I started. I want a stereo that can do three things:
-
Sound awesome
-
Play flacs or other lossless format from an external drive
-
Occasionally play movies
I have looked over tons of reviews for both speakers and receivers. I am still not sure if I want a 5.1 system or if my money is better spent just getting two nice speakers. I would like to get a receiver with more than just stereo outputs because, at least at some point, I would like to upgrade to a surround sound system. I like watching movies, but the movies I watch tend to not be the Batman-y or adventures/explosion types of movies...so crazy 3-d sound isn't important. I just want a setup that sounds good.
I have passed on a bunch of deals that have popped up the last few days, which has been hard, but I just haven't been able to pull the trigger since I don't feel completely educated on buying a new system. I have passed on a Polk RM510 5.1 system for 220$ and the Energy Take 5.1 system for around the same price. Did I fuck up? As far as receivers, are they all similar in sound quality in my price range? Am I just shopping for price/features? If so I would like to skip the networked stuff and just get the best sounding/basic receiver that can play FLAC from a usb drive... So yeah, I'm a noob and I have come to you all for help. Have mercy, and thanks in advance!
EDIT: OH YEAH...I kinda forgot my price range. I can be talked into something around 500-600$ total for speakers and receiver...but I would definitely love one of those "way better than their price" sweet spots...
