iPod touch echo

Hey everyone, I have my friends iPod touch 3rd gen, and it's making strange sounds with the earphones plugged in. Music will play, but which a heavy echo, and no midrange vocals. Almost like an instrumental piece. It works fine on speaker, and likewise the earphones work on other devices. Any ideas?

Edit: Nevermid, I figured it out. She broke one of the earphone contacts in the iPod. I was able to replicate it with my phone by not holding the earphones in enough to have all of them make contact.
