IWASA Home-schooled jungle freak with non religious parents. AMA!
Hi Reddit, this started off at AMA, and I'm told it is better fitted over here... I get asked about this ALL the time!
Here's a little back story. Myself and my two older (twin) sisters were home schooled on a goat farm in the early 1990's in rural Alberta, Canada. We lived on a 500 acre farm, we had no power until I was 5, our house was heated by passive solar and a wood heating furnaces. Everything from tour house to the road my father made by himself. We had a heard of 800 goats to take care of. My mother has a teaching degree and my father has two PhD's. There motives for home schooling us had nothing to do with god!
My sisters (now 30) have never stepped foot inside any type of public school classroom. Both of them are happy, and going to public school would not have helped them to do what they do now. If anything, being home-schooled, for them, gave them the freedom to go down the paths they are on now! (there paths, you may ask? That's probably a different AMA...)
I hated being home schooled. due to having a bad case of dyslexia that went undiagnosed until I was 12, living in such a rural area, and being socially out casted by most of the people in my shitty town cause my family was quite different. Once my parents divorced and my mom, sisters and I moved into the city, I chose to go to high school for grade 10, 11 and 12. I graduated in June, 2005.
DL;DR My sisters and I were home schooled in an unconventional environment for non-religious reasons. They loved it, I hated it. I ended up eventually going to high school. AMA!
