Going to be picking up a few books. In what order would you suggest?
Hi,
First off I want to say that I have looked over the "Recommended Reading" in the FAQ section and have come away with a few titles I'm going to pick up tomorrow.
I've been Atheist as far back as I can remember, or at least since I was old enough to grasp the concept of religion and God. My parents are as well but their beliefs were not forced on me. They raised me to be an open-minded person and to make my own decisions in life and in my beliefs. Well fortunately I have found the teachings of religion to be quite barbaric and ridiculous and am proud not to follow or behave based on fear or reward…well, at least in terms of religion.
A few of the titles I have picked out seem to be really interesting but I certainly don't want to dive into anything too scientific and in depth before I’m quite ready. I'm more so looking for a satirical take on religion while providing facts. Essentially a beginners book or introduction.
I've searched and found a number of posts regarding a good beginner book so I apologize for posting yet another, but have not come away with a real conclusive answer.
Because of this I have chosen the following which seem interesting, I was just wondering what public opinion is on which I should read first.
*Why Evolution is True - Jerry A. Coyne
*The God Delusion - Richard Dawkins
*In defense of Atheism: Michel Onfray
*The Demon Haunted World - Carl Sagan
*The End of Faith - Sam Harris
*The Portable Atheist - Christopher hitchens
Thanks for the help and again sorry for yet another "Recommended reading" beginner post.
TL;DR: Which of the above listed books would you recommend for a beginner. Which order would you suggest they be read?
Greatly appreciated
