Is there a place where I can play Pokemon games on my PC?

I don't own any other gaming console, and I've never played a pokemon game.

/hang head in shame

But I would love to play one, and I was wondering, which one would be good for someone who has never played pokemon before to start out with, and how do I run it on Windows 7?
