Need some help here

So I'm in Japan for the next 2 months and I'm planning on getting a tattoo. I've visited the shop and talked to the artist to schedule an appointment, but the problem is that he is not available until the Sunday before I leave.

This creates a few problems for me:

1. I have to coach swimming lessons that last week before I leave Japan, meaning that I will have to be in the pool for a portion of time (around 1 hour in the morning and 1 hour at night) but this does not mean that I will have the tattoo necessarily submerged. Should I cover it up with some kind of protective bandage while in the water? BTW the pool is indoors for one lesson and outdoors for the other. I would be able to wear a shirt outdoors.

2. I leave the next Saturday (6 days post-tattoo) on a plane back to the US. Does this create more possibilities of infection of the tattoo? Will it be healed up enough to ride on the plane (~15 hours of plane ride and travel time)

Basically, I really want to get this piece done (will be on my upper back) but I'm worried about scheduling the appointment for sure if it will cause complications, seeing that I will not be able to go back to the artist if something goes wrong.

I will probably never be able to come back to Japan and this will be the one souvenir that I would be heartbroken to leave without.
