Advice for someone new, please!

My dad is awesome and it's looking like he's willing to give me his motorcycle if I want it. The catch is: I've never ridden a motorcycle. My pickup is a stick and I've been driving that for a few years with no problems, but I'm a bit nervous about committing with no experience.

This isn't about concern with safety or maneuverability or anything, but shamefully, I just don't have any experience, at all, with motorcycles. I don't know the unwritten rules or the tips and tricks or really just the things I don't know that I should know before I get involved.

As someone with virtually no experience, what advice do you all have?
