Studs vs Sluts

Let's discuss:

1.) Why men with many sexual partners are admired as "studs" while women with many sexual partners are shamed as "sluts".

2.) Should we continue to hold this view or should we hold some other view?

Before contraception sex involved the risk of pregnancy and STDs. Today if you correctly use 2+ forms on contraception the risks of pregnancy and STDs are below 0.1%. These forms of contraception have only been available to everyone in the developed world for a couple generations, and the Stud and Slut phenomena is much, much older than that. Now that there is almost no risk of pregnancy and STDs if done safely, it is only a matter of time before the notion of a Slut goes away. This hasn't happened overnight because values like this take more than a couple generations to change.

Women were especially at risk because they must carry for 9 months. It follows from mainstream interpretations of evolution that males are evolutionary successful when they mate with as many women as possible. Women are evolutionary successful when they mate with the best possible single mate each cycle. So when men have sex with many partners they have the excuse that they are acting in their own best interest evolutionary, and women do not have this excuse. Both Studs and Sluts are likely out for the physical pleasure of sex, but only Studs can say they are performing the evolutionarily optimal strategy. Sluts are taking a less than opitmal evolutionary strategy because the physical pleasure is a stronger motivating factor to them. People view those who harm themselves for physical pleasure as debased. I argue that drug addicts and alcoholics share a similar stigma with Sluts.

It is my own belief that an excess indulgence in physical pleasures distracts one from achieving the human good and living a self-actualized life. Since the name of this subreddit is Greek I'll just say that Aristotle says this in his Ethics.

I believe that with the easy access to contraception to everyone in the developed world, men and women should be judged the same when it comes to the amount of sex and sexual partners they have. I believe that an excess amount of sex is bad and shameful for both men and women.
