Supporting low elo solo queue: Using champs that can switch roles effectively. (sorry 10 hour session, just getting thoughts out while im still awake)

I am a support main. I dipped below 700 elo and tried to support only like i did at 1k elo, and it was a nightmare. partner afks, builds frozen ehrt on ashe, or thinks Yi is an appropriate carry for duo bot.. You name it. I have tried and failed to support it.

I stopped choosing true supports for the most part, and started using champions I can easily and quickly shift roles, if we have a how do you say.. "critical failure". Taric can handle a lane by himself specced tanky, but i cant do it on any other true support. ( i cant 2v1 as alistar, janna, soraka, lulu etc. I could just be bad?)

So if you are interested, heres how I have been successfully supporting sub 700 elo.(+100 today, yeeee..)

I have been supporting as: Gangplank, Malphite, Annie, AP sion, and i will be trying out chogath more extensively today and tomorrow.

Gp:

i thought he was useless as a support. Nope. Skip the gp5, if you are under 1k elo it will slow you down. standard ad build,, cloth 5 into wriggles>herald>aegis>trinity. ad carry runes/arpen/crit etc. If your ad fucks off, wriggles>trinity/P.D./I.E etc, and replace him as the ad carry.

malphite:

mpen, armor & mr, armor/health/ms/ap.hp5/gp10 quint. Put the majority of your mastery points in defense.(0-21-9, i use 0-23-7) standard support build, spam q. on their carry. Easy. tankier than alistar and taric, and you dont need to be in melee range, after 6 you can roam better than taric for obvious reasons and you can control teafights better. Just pray to god your team understands that you need to initiate! I flat out tell them, hey i go first, i die, you kill them all, lets win this. that usually works.

Annie.yee. philo/dorans rings>DFG + catalyst core>roa>rylais. standard ap runes and masteries.. CDR boots might be a good idea to pop your stun asap. , otherwise sorcs.

AP sion, I start mana crystal>sheen and havent lost so far, out of like 15 games played. not a large sample. ... standard ap sion build. I dont know why but it works really well. Kill lane, not support. You bring only a stun and high burst damage to teamfights. With annie sort of the same thing...

Other champs come to mind, cho gath, singed, voli, rammus, veigar, j4.. I dont have any experience with them, and I havent played any of them except cho singed and rammus.

Gangplank + Ashe is really effective. double global ultimates,double on hit slows, free cv, double gold etc. Very nice synergy.

malph only works against non sustain lanes. Otherwise you cant get the kills needed to be tanky enough to teamfight effectively.

Also, Easy on the wards, ward tri and dragon earlygame, top and bot ramps midgame, and baron plus behind baron lategame. 2 wards at a time, otherwise you go broke and waste money for gear and then warding is actually a liability. this isnt set in stone though. if you dont want to ward at all go for it, ward the map and light it up like dday, thats you.. Its quite easy to camp tower and freeze lane at my elo, so warding is a waste if you can get your AD to let you freeze lane and freefarm bot for 30 minutes without getting distracted..
