[Build Help] Going to gut and upgrade my current PC before I move out for University. First build, component check.
Gentlemen. My first time on this subreddit, this isn't technically a full "build" since I'm really only replacing core components, I intend to keep my case, liquid cooling unit, memory, and PSU. Thusfar the most extensive work I've done with a computer would be replacing the power supply and video card on my brothers computer (a factory built Dell no less, damn plastic clamps everywhere).
So I suppose you could call this my "first" real build. What I plan to do is upgrade all the core components of my machine thanks to some generous monetary donations from graduation. I'm a CS major, so I wanted to have a pretty much optimal unit for any coding and work I'll be doing, in addition to all the gaming I'll no doubt do as well. I was hoping the kind denizens of buildapc could go over my planned purchases and upgrades and pretty much just vet them and give them a once over. Make sure I'm getting a good deal, all the parts are compatible, good for what I want, etc. Without further ado.
Current PC Specs
Case: NZXT Tempest EVO
PSU: Xion, 700W
Mobo: Gigabyte AMD 770 chipset, USB3
CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 955 @ 3.2 GHz
Video Card: AMD Radeon HD 5850
HDD: 500GB
RAM: 8GB DDR3-1333
Planned Upgrades
Mobo: GIGABYTE GA-Z77X-UD3H
CPU: Intel Core i7 2600k
Boot Drive: Corsair 60GB SSD
Storage HDD: WD Caviar Blac 2TB 7200RPM
Video Card:EVGA GeForce GTX670 2GB
How does this look to you guys? I think all the components are compatible, I know my PSU is high enough wattage, and everything I listed is pretty much the best I can get without spend orders of magnitude more for marginal upgrades. I just wanted to make sure it was good. I'll probably post before and after pictures as well. I just need to go over the ins and outs of assembling it all, and learn about cable management.
Anyways I just wanted to post this, thanks to anyone who reads. Recommendations, tips, ideas are all greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
TL;DR Upgrading PC for college/gaming. Wanted to see what buildapc thought of my components, and any advice or wisdom that you guys might have.
