Good game changing mods.

I recently started playing Terra Firma Craft. It's neat but it's a bit more work than I want to deal with. It's advertised as "survival mode as it should have been". I was wondering if anyone knew of any good mods worth making a server with. I remember something about Industrial Craft or something like that ... but I'm looking for mods that add more features.
