Slip of the tongue.

I was talking to my dad a few hours ago. You know when you say something, realize you shouldn't, and want to shove the words back in your mouth? Yeah, I had that moment. I was talking about how strange it was, looking back, at how many conservative teenagers I knew in high school. We were joking, and I said, who would tell us what to do with our lives? My dad agreed, and for some reason I said gay marriage. My parents are very very Christian, though my dad doesn't necessarily vote to the current Bible interpretations. Well, we got in a discussion about it, even though I tried to drop it, and he brought up this issue related to healthcare. He said gay men are more to have health problems straight men don't have. He said it wasn't STDs, so I'm not sure what he was referring to. He also said he has no problem with gay people falling and love and moving in together, but you can't tell him it's a moral decision. I had to muffle laughter here, because that seems worse than usual arguing I hear from most Christians. Then I said how using the Bible for personal morals is all right (as to avoid yet another argument) but to vote with it isn't, and how Republicans just use the Bible and throw in this sort of thing when it's irrelevant, instead of a decent argument like the health thing my dad brought up. He said liberals do the same thing, argue with nothing to say. I said they absolutely do, but I'm talking about this specific issue. He said I wasn't being fair. At this point I wanted to put my head into the wall because it seemed like he was just avoiding my point. Of both my parents, I feel like my dad is more likely to drop religion. He's so logical and thinks through so much...but then he goes and drops that he believes the earth is 6,000 years old and dinosaurs are a lie. The point is, he's terrible at arguing this stuff, unless enthusiasm counts, and I'm waiting for him to see the truth how my brother and I see it. But the "debate" we had set back all those hopes for me. I mean, what am I supposed to do with this? I mean, does this seem as ass-backwards to everyone else as it does to me? Did anyone else's brain melt from this? Or am I looking at it wrong or blowing it out of proportion? It's times like this I want to come out to my parents so they can know what crap I consider their Bible arguments to be, and so maybe they might stop dragging me to church. But I won't for a while, anyway. I just don't know what to think of this argument I listed above.

tl;dr: I accidentally brought up gay marriage to my Christian father, who used arguments that made it sound like he won't just admit he accepts the secular world.
