[TOMT][Movie] Weird science fiction movie

What I can very vaguely remember about this movie is two parts:

In one part of it this person (I can't remember whether it was a child or an adult) is consumed by a mercury-like liquid.

The second part is about a person inside a container who is lowered into a hole and red and green lights are visible.

I also think this movie had something to do with capsules, and it may have been in Spanish when I watched it, so the capsule thing may translate to something else.

More Details:

• I think that the point of the movie is they are trying to cure what happens to the people who get consumed by the liquid

• When the person is consumed by the liquid, (s)he is in a type of ditch/hole

• The setting is desert-like, possibly taking place on mars

• Contact reminds me of it

• Yeah, I think Contact may have been made in the same time period
