Please move to the back of the bus. All the way back.
Let me reiterate something about riding buses, especially on busy routes on a low floor bus.
Why is it that, regardless of the amount of passengers getting on and/or waiting for the bus, that Torontonians in general almost never move back past the rear doors? This is especially true on a low floor bus, where people seem to think stepping on the stairs and standing on the high floor section is like entering another unknown dimension.
Guys, it's not. In fact, it is perfectly legal and recommended to stand in the high floor section when a bus is crushloaded. This is so that more passengers can fit inside the bus, leaving less (if any) stranded at the bus stop waiting for the next bus. I know we all wanna get home as soon as possible, but please don't be so self-centered and be considerate of others as well, who have as much of a right as you to be on the bus and arrive home as soon as possible.
I find that this problem is very prevalent throughout the TTC compared to other transit systems I've ridden. Even during the YRT strike, passengers still moved all the way back on the crushloaded 99 Yonge buses, hence the spillover effect wasn't as profound. I also ride Grand River Transit in Waterloo often, and even the passengers there take the initiative to move all the way back and up the steps.
So what's stopping the TTC passengers from moving all the way back? There's signs on the windows everywhere telling you to move back, including one on the high floor section saying "thank you for moving back". Seriously. If you're one of those passengers who do move all the way back, thank you. If not, I strongly encourage you to start showing an example by moving to the very back of the bus if the bus gets full at some point during your travels.
