What do you think of the lottery and/or people who play it? My boyfriend thinks I'm stupid for playing it every weeks.

I buy a powerball ticket almost every week. I know there's a 99.99% chance I'll never come out ahead if I play it, but it's fun to think about. I'm really poor. I have student loans over my head from an expensive school, I work for near minimum wage as a substitute teacher (I'm actually a full time teacher, they just don't want to pay me more, so they hire me as a sub), and I live in a poor district (I have to buy supplies for my students a lot of the time). Buying a lottery ticket is my only real way out. I may hope and pray I win, but I know I probably won't. Despite that, it's fun to think about how I'd spend the money and imagine how my life would change.

My boyfriend thinks I'm an idiot for buying lottery tickets. But I just don't think he understands because he makes a lot of money and isn't in my situation.

What do you think, Reddit?
