Any non-confrontational solutions to dealing with a horrid upstairs neighbors?

Other then going into a long drawn out explanation...just leave it as annoying & inconsiderate as f*ck people in a 2 family house. They are upstairs and under us (they rented the basement).

I'm a quiet neighbor....older, no parties, no children and not able to find a better place.

What I hope to hear are stories of people who live under annoying people and either learn to live in close proximity with a-holes, or have wonderful stories of passive aggressive-ness that made you feel better.
