A counterpart to the 'hit a button, payout, someone dies' question: would you work a boring 9-5 to save people's lives?
Hypothetically, you are offered a job by some non-governmental secret organization. The job will pay a fairly modest rate, just enough to maintain a standard middle-class life in a suburban area without very much extra. You are told that by doing the job, you can save hundreds of human lives every year- and not from old age or disease but from violent death.
However, the job is exceptionally boring (think... working with spreadsheets), 9-5 Monday through Friday 48 weeks of the year, your office will be bland and while you've been shown proof that you'll be doing good, you'll never be able to satisfactorily explain to other people what it is you do, so you can only say that you work in an office.
There are no other acceptable candidates for the job. When you quit, the job ceases to be done.
Do you take it?
