I have a few questions on Atheism.

I do not know much about Atheism. I get the feeling that what I think I know is not what is. Here are my questions:

  1. Is/are there any kind of Athest organizations similar to a church? I see all sorts of churchs everywhere I go. I see them not only as a place where people get together and worship their God, but an outreach center, food bank, after school program provider, etc. I have to say, I like that about churches. I see them out in the community doing more good than bad. I do not see this at all from Atheists, I'm not saying it's not out there, I just haven't seen it. I think something like that would help your image. Is that even a consideration for you guys, a place that offers tutoring, or food assistance etc. for no charge?

  2. The Atheists I've talked to all seem to be very passionate about God. They get mad, they get upset. I don't think this a bad thing, I just wonder why you guys take it so personally when it's something that will only affect you if you let it, more or less. I've heard from a few Athiests after listening to them argue that they just hate the idea of God, it just pisses them off. To me, that is like someone who is disgusted by gay marriage. I see a lot of "why are you against gay marriage when it won't affect you and yours" and I have to agree. I also want to apply that logic to the God argument, but I rarely get into it about God. So, why does it bother you so much? Is there some sort of vendatta going on?

  3. From my perspective, it seems that Atheists want to erradicate God altogether from society. Is this the case? If so, is that a good idea? I know and have known many people who really enjoy the community that goes along with attending church and the comfort they feel when they think about the big guy in the sky looking after them. I can't say I see anything wrong with that. I think there is a place for that in everyone's life at one point or another and should not be scorned (when I say a place for "that" I mean a place for community and hope).

  4. If you had the power to take away someone's faith, would you? What would you replace it with and do you think it would really fill the void that was left?

Thanks! I had all these worded real nice and then my computer (read: I) ****ed it all up. I'm also not sure if I should post this here, but I don't know what I'm doing.
