Baffle/muffler question...

I have a 1984 Honda vt700. Recently purchased. And it's not quite as loud as I would like it. Would it be better/cheaper to remove or puncture my baffles? Or try to find after market pipes? Now keep in mind I don't want deafeningly loud pipes, just louder than stock.
