I want a partner or two to help expand hidden base but I cant risk losing the progress I've already made to a troll.....

I have no real life friends that play minecraft. At first I really liked this server because it felt so much like vanilla survival.. But now that I have established myself in a very well hidden place I am getting lonely. =( How do I start recruiting people with minimal risk to my base and resources? I realize that's kind of the point is you cant trust anyone.. But to other people who have started cities.. what kind of criteria did you require before admitting people into your base?
