FiOS vs xfinity pricing - help me pick an ISP

I hope this is the best subreddit for this question. My apologies if this isn't considered the most appropriate place to ask my question.

So I'm moving at the end of next month and am looking to get signed up for my new internet connection.

I depend on the Internet to do my school work (and unfortunately but most likely will still need it for my job search). Right now my complex has a 20/40 Mbit-ish shared fiber connection included with my monthly rent, which is awesome. I'd like to have something comparable at my new apartment (in Arlington, VA) but don't necessarily need the crazy huge upload speed. I do some light remote backup but it's not regularly that I'm doing large upload traffic.

I know they do this intentionally but it's so hard to compare pricing between Verizon and Comcast. I don't need bundles. I don't need TV or phone or anything other than a high speed, low latency, RELIABLE internet connection. I'm not crazy about a contract but I plan to be in this place at least the next two years so a contract is ok I guess.

Verizon FiOS - "cheapest" prices require a contract, they just raised prices and for the highest tiers raised speeds, highest speeds not even guaranteed so they expect me to sign a contract for "quantum" speeds I might not even get?, seemingly no other fees if I sign up online (activation, equipment fees, etc), people seem to have a better experience vs Comcast (less problems, better tech support, etc)

15/5 - $70/mo*

50/25 - $80/mo*

*with 2 year agreement

Comcast xfinity - 6 month promo pricing that jacks up in month 7 and then again at month 12 is their bread and butter, still might be cheaper all things considered, confusing marketing weasel language like "PowerBoost", wtf are the "real" non-powerboost speeds I can't even find it in the fine print, modem rental fee or need to buy modem, any install/activation fee?, less reliable? (craptastic technical support, older copper plant)

Promos

Performance - 20/4? - $20 months 1-6, $35 months 7-12, $42.95 to $62.95 after that

Blast - 30/6? - $30 months 1-6, $45 months 7-12, $52.95 to $72.95 after that

tl;dr - Just convince me to get the expensive FiOS service because its worth the price.
