Scary situation I was in at a [7]

Last night, my bestfriENT and I were smoking some nice Orange Delight out of my homemade bong, when I look out the window and see a cop driving down the street (in front of my house), he then proceeds to stop and drive in reverse until he reaches the street that my actual driveway is on, he then turns on to the street and passes by my house slowly, I then shut the window we were blowing the smoke out of, and hide everything we have.

Then, we waited about an hour until i thought everything was okay again, and we packed up the bowl and took another couple hits until we reached about a [7], right before i packed the bowl for my friENT, I see the headlights of the cop parked in front of my neighbor's house. The moment I looked at him, he slowly started to drive past my house. And I freaked out, I started telling my friend not to make any noise, to put all the weed and paraphernalia away, and to not even move. I was scared for my life. (My mom had told me that day that i can't be smoking in the house and that the neighbors might call the cops)

Did I do the right thing? What could I have said if the cop had come up to the door or something? Do you think it was related to us?
