Acid stained concrete floor map?
A few weeks ago I came across an acid stained concrete floor and absolutely fell in love with the idea. It seemed like a great way to create a beautiful floor design without spending thousands of dollars on expensive tile.
Then today I came across this and absolutely fell in love with it. I think it would be an extremely fun and interesting project to create a floor map with acid stain, but have zero experience with acid staining and don't have any idea what kind of limitations I'd face on a project so intricate.
Most acid stain patterns I've seen online have been largely broadly geometric which leads me to question whether its possible to acid stain on such a detailed level. I realize, no matter what, creating such a map with acid would be extremely tedious so that isn't exactly my concern...
I suppose I'm wondering if I'd need to stencil this or if its possible to freehand. If the acid is likely to "run" and requires the stencils to be taped down air tight I imagine it would be difficult to create a large stencil unless it was made entirely with a sticky backing. Alternatively, I'd have to make lots of smaller stencils. If I could freehand it that would be much, much simpler, and I think would contribute to an 'antique' feel for the map.
If anyone has any thoughts on these techniques, or other ideas, any input they could provide would be appreciated.
