First AG batch a success! Mango wheat beer turned out great.
I stopped brewing for a while due to financial concerns but got back into it recently with a friend. I was well enough off to finally invest in some new equipment (propane burner, 10 gal kettle, etc.) to go all grain and I'm glad I did. I had an idea to toss some mango into a secondary fermenter a long time ago since I had never heard of mango in a beer before and we both agreed that it might work well in an American Wheat beer (low banana and clove flavors to hide the mango).
I just opened the first one tonight after a week in the bottle and was initially unimpressed. It was slightly sweet but not much mango was present. As it warmed up slightly in the glass the flavors seem to come out of hiding and WOW! was I impressed. I never got a beer this good from extract. I'm not entirely convinced the difference was from the switch from extract to all grain, but I cant wait to brew another all grain batch already.
If there's any interest, I can post the recipe I used. It is just a lightly modified basic American Wheat recipe. We had to modify it because the shop didn't carry the exact grains we were looking for. I don't claim it's the best or most informed recipe ever, but I can't argue with the product.
Here's a blurry picture of what's left in my glass right now for what it's worth.
