removing waterproof mascara?

I love the waterproof mascara because it stays on all day... but that's the crux of the problem, it also stays on all night. Seriously, this stuff is so difficult to remove! I've tried makeup remover, baby oil, and plain soap and water, but it still stays goopy on my lashes... I figure that can't really be healthy for my eyes. Any tips?
