The best book(s) for learning math?

I'm not really sure on how to ask this...I tried my best with the title..

But what are some good books for learning math? And I don't mean textbooks..but I mean books that will help you learn the origin of mathematics and why it is the way it is.

A book that will explain numbers, theories and equations..

And if there isn't one book like that, could someone point me in the direction of multiple books that could get the job done. Also, if there's a name for that kind of information (a field), I'd love to know what it is. And if there are any books like that that are geared towards beginners..that would be great.
