My less than a month out of dealership Polo was rear ended by some drunks who had been parting all night long.. They hit me on my way to new job at 0900 ish and I was so pissed I almost beat the shit out of the driver.. 🤷🏼‍♂️ I'm glad you're okay, hope you'll find a new model and hopefully you'll get that insurance money asap..

That blows. :( and that's why drunk driving is shitty, risking yourself is one thing but nobody has the right to put others at risk.

As far as insurance- they lowballed me at first, but I had the sales manager at a dealership print out some comparable sales from the time period/area, the dealers KBB estimates and the JD Power estimate. It took 4 days of arguing back and forth and did not seem like a sure thing, but they eventually came back with an offer close to $4k over their original offer. That difference is pretty big to me as far as impact to my finances. Always worth pushing for more, even though they assured me at every step of the way that this was their absolute final number and they would not be budging from that original offer and the car "just wasn't worth that much".

For example, they tried to quote a broken taillight as pre-existing damage? They also had an un-explained "adjusted value" where they dropped over $1k off the value without any reasoning what-so-ever. After confronting them about that the adjustment just disappeared, never to be spoken of again. I'm guessing that's because they currently have an unresolved class-action suit against them in Pennsylvania right now for doing exactly that.

Fuck the insurance companies, take what you can and give nothing back.

Yep, I kinds wishes I took a different route that day.. Like do your mistakes but keep me out of it, you know? As for insurance - fucking counts, like I get they want to pay as low as they can but goddamn, that's the whole reason we actually pay them in the first place..especially if it's not your fault. But, don't you get the money from the other side? As in your insurance company, "sue" his insurance company and get the money as it's his fault? Like you couldn't done that to yourself obviously.. I'm not in the states so it might work differently over here tho..

Nope, I live in one of 12 "no-fault" states. Your own insurance covers your own vehicle, regardless of who is at fault. So you pre-determine how much coverage you want, sooooo it's a scam lobbied for by the insurance companies, because it incentivises you to get full coverage. Either pay them the higher premiums for full coverage, or pay lower premiums but eat shit and pay for your own repair unless it's something like this, where it's 100% not my fault. Even here, I was fortunate in that I had "broad-form" coverage, otherwise I'd have owed a deductible. Idk how a deductible would even with a total loss.

This is bat shit crazy, you can be an excellent driver, with no claims(they should reward good drivers with no claims), and someone will rear-end you and now you need to deal with this shit or pay full coverage for premium and hope you'll get our alright.. Wtf is this shit.. 🤦🏼‍♂️🤷🏼‍♂️ I hope you'll get as much money possible to find a replacement car asap 🤞🏻🤞🏻

Yeah I'm fine, but no comparable GSW's for sale around here. :(

What about Alltracks?

Eh, I'm not a fan of slammed cars but I'm even less a fan of lifted cars. I wanted my GSW like 1/2" lower fan it was (it got lifted an inch at the axle when I went from 15's to 17's), and buying an all-track to drop it a few inches doesn't really appeal to me. They understeer and roll way more than enough as it is without raising the center of gravity.

There IS a '19 4motion DSG I just found for sale, but I'm leaning more toward a GTI this time around.

The 4motion DSG is so good. Especially tuned. At stage 1 you'll be ahead of a stock GTI - and since it isn't a hot hatch you won't be paying the higher insurance for the privilege.

I'm up north this weekend and the number of times I've almost been creamed by plates from Ohio and Illinois has been insane. Glad my GTI is safely back in Lansing.

That's awful, but I hope you're unharmed.
