A solitary day out.

Ay up, I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for a day out to get me out of this rut.

Due to a back injury I can no longer do the classics, Thor's cave, The Cloud or even Mow Cop, so sadly hiking/walking is off the cards. I can drive ok, though, but just looking for ideas of things to do.

Most weekends I'm bored, lonely and without inspiration.

I'm looking for local-ish places to go that I can jet off to on a Sunday morning and be back for bed on Sunday night reafy for work. Camping over is an option too I have a pop up tent and a very supportive camp bed.

Thanks

Or Tittersworth. Both nice...

Go to your local, get a few beers, then start chatting to the locals

Not quite what I was after but I'll add it to the list.

You sound like you're in need of a dog.

I'd love one, but I have two cats and work long hours it wouldn't be fair on a dog

How about north Wales? Snowdonia is a cracking place to drive around with plenty of places to stop and have a sit on a bench. Lovely beaches on the coast too.

That sounds like a plan. Thanks

You could go to Peak Wildlife and then do some fossil hunting at Brown End Quarry?

I love Peak Wildlife but never heard of the quarry, will look into that.

It's small but lots of ocean fossils and only 10 mins drive from Peak Wildlife

What about a drive up horseshoe pass, there’s a cafe at the top or my fave place to go is Matlock for fish m chips and a walk along the river!

Are you ok walking on flat terrain around towns etc? If so:

The monkey park at Trentham is always good. Bonus points if you can tell the difference between children and monkeys playing.

Biddulph Grange gardens are nice (if you like gardens)

Go to Llandudno, get the tram up the the Orme and visit the copper mines, if you're back it up to it. Have fish and chips by the sea.

If you're in the Peak District for something else, Blaze Farm, west of Buxton, so very good ice cream.

National Waterways Museum at Ellesmere Port

We like Carsington Waters in Ashbourne. Nice lake and little walks. We've found quieter spots there to do a bbq too.

Just open up Google maps, zoom in and take a look.

Your best bet is to buy a motorbike to do it though. Some love a destination like Matlock Bath or the Ponderosa, but just riding is so thoroughably enjoyable that most "destinations" are just home via a loop of whatever size taking in quiet back roads and scenic spots.
