Comments on Disappearances

Spoiler

I can't see a general discussion thread for the latest episode so thought I'd start one, mods please nuke if I'm duplicating, it's 5am in the UK and I just got home!

SPOILERS. Obviously.

Firstly, I had an ex that thought the song was "suicide is dangerous" which always entertained me.

Secondly, I really love Americans pronouncing our weirdly spelt place names. It's one hundred percent our fault and it makes me laugh to realise anew how dumb our naming is. It's Hart-lee-pool despite being called Hartlepool, and Bark-sher not Berkshire. We tend to pronounce "shire" as "sher" like Gloucestershire but that's accent dependent and I know we're on Appalachian territory here so I'll show myself out.

The most important thing I wanted to say is, wasn't that lady's disappearance pretty much the plot of Gone Girl? All it was missing was her killing the ex boyfriend and claiming he kidnapped her. Surprised no one figured that out sooner tbh, I'm pretty sure the book pre-dates the event by some time.

Huge love to the timesuckers, space lizards, creeps, peepers and anyone else from here in sunny London, England, the podcast and community helps keep me going on some rough shifts as a paramedic (along with plenty of Whipple, of course) and I'm so, so glad I found you all.

That's a good subreddit on here actually too.

Just don’t fall for the staircase threads thinking they are real.

I’m a little shocked that witness protection wasn’t brought up. That’s assisted disappearing!

I was hoping to hear about Jon Ruffo. It's almost like the government let him disappear with their help. There is a podcast about him called "Have you seen this man?". They profiled other people as well.

That's wild!! Thanks for the cool recommendation, fellow meatsack.

I just started listening to a podcast by a New Scotland Yard Criminal Behavioural Analyst called Laura Richards who's doing a multi part deep dive on Gabby Petito. It's called "The Crime Analyst"

There's a crossover to Jim Clemente's podcast where they look at the "note" left by Bryan Laundrie and explain the ways in which it's fantasy. Interesting to hear about the lack of "I" statements in a story is indicative of a made up scenario; the writer cannot place themselves in the memory because it's not real so the narrative becomes disjointed or as if you're reading a novel.

(Apologies if you all knew this stuff already!)
