Carlos Santana collapsed - Pine Knob, MI

other

My friend just texted us to let us know, Santana was playing and just collapsed on stage. They put up a curtain to block the audience view

As of posting, he's been down for 12 minutes.

“Just taking it easy. Forgot to eat and drink water so I dehydrated and passed out,” the legendary guitarist wrote on his official Facebook page

Very plausible. Went to a pool party and this happened to woman there. She was running around helping the hostese and straight up forgot to drink or eat something.

Happened to me when I was doing intermittent fasting and didn’t have enough water. Didn’t help it was hot out. Fell on my face in my friends drive way. I was lucky I didn’t hit my head weird or I could have died. I was 36 at the time. Drink your fucking water people

Also you can adjust to a healthy diet instead of "dieting".. short term solutions don't have long term results.

Also you will have less of a chance of wilting in the sun and having a face full pavement.

short term solutions

Who said anything about short term? Don't project your poor self control onto others. I've been doing some form of IF for years now and I've never been healthier.

Thanks for your unsolicited health advice

Too many people are calling their unhealthy crash diets "intermittent fasting". Like, I guess it is technically? But you're supposed to pay attention to macros. And I doubt they are.

1†

So many people fasting because it’s a fad without the awareness of how sketchy some of them can be.

Someone just told me about that happening very recently. Caused a whole thing because some were drinking & couldn't drive to the hospital, someone else was injured & couldn't help ... moral of the story: stay hydrated and keep the blood sugar up on hot days.

Damn, sounds like he found his 50 year old mescaline stash.

Yes, even though he didn’t write that song.

Wow, hope he's ok. Any updates?

Edit: Just found this

Edit edit: Looks like he's at least well enough to wave to the crowd

8

That Wally sure likes to tell me it's a hot one out there when I already know it's a hot one...

You know it’s hot out here, too.

Yeah man; it’s hot too

Dehydration? Fatigue?

Hope he’s ok.

It's easy to forget to keep hydration and electrolytes in balance when you're that busy. When you get older (he's in his 70s), it's even more important.

We had a guy in his twenties drop last week. Probably heat stroke but definitely dehydrated. Dude said he, "forgot his water bottle and didn't feel like walking to the building for a drink" he was out pressure washing the tennis courts. Literally got dehydrated/overheated while spraying water next to a building where we got flats of water stacked up.

Happened to me (25M) on Saturday. Dehydrated and fell off the tailgate of my truck. Very lucky to only have cuts and bruises, not even stitches. Could’ve very easily been badly concussed, fractured or dead. Drink water.

Twitter reports he's better. Early reports can be sketchy.

Damn, just saw him in Salt Lake last week. Great show with lots of energy.

Man, it's a hot one.

Sure is hot too

Multiple sources are saying heat exhaustion.

12
Acid_Enthusiast•

Nothing too serious, he passed out from dehydration and heat exhaustion. It was already like 100°F out there, so it must've been like 115°F on stage under those lights. Hope he's making a fast recovery.

10
mrfl3tch3r•

I'm 30 years younger and I can barely function in this heat. Hope he gets well soon!

Wow I saw him in 77 I believe. Could have been late 76. Great show.

I was at Col. Bruce Hampton's 70th when he collapsed and died on stage. Sold out Fox Theater had everyone file out without speaking a word. So surreal. Glad to hear Carlos is OK.

What a relief he’s okay!

When I was in high school, I played bass clarinet for the school band. Our band trip in 2003 involved driving to Ottawa for some sight-seeing and a couple of performances, including one on Parliament Hill on Victoria Day (May long weekend in Canada). We had our designated spot on the steps where they wanted us to play, but when we arrived there was this man standing there, dressed in a fairly thick jacket, with a wide- brimmed hat covering wavy, curly hair.

Mr Santana, according to this guy who may or may not have been the Latin guitar virtuoso, listened to us play our squawking renditions and told us that he comes to Parliament and the Peace Tower as a muse. It might have been just a crazy, homeless person, but he liked our effort and music. Cheers, Mr Santana. Thanks for the memory, even if it was only a doppelganger.

Years ago I saw him at Pine Knob. It was a great show. At one point one of his strings broke and he still played the song perfectly with the remaining five. I’m so relieved to hear he’s doing better.

Feel better Carlos!!
