Review:
I have to say right off the bat that I adore this book. It just feels very well put together, with a lot of care. The way it mimics medical dramas is perfect, in my opinion, as someone who has seen snippets from the shows his mother watches. All four LI’s are fantastic, at least in this first book, and they get around the same amount of screen time, give or take a little. I do feel bad for lesbian and straight male players who only have Jackie as a LI, but as a gay guy, this is the nicest this app’s ever been to us lol. Three awesome male LI’s in a GOC book? Gay paradise! Sienna is such a sweet friend, and Elijah’s nice too. I love Aurora’s arc and development, and I feel like maybe she could have worked as a LI, to balance out the gender ratio a little? Landry’s betrayal hurts, especially when he really receives zero comeuppance for sabotaging you and snitching on you. I like the option of being nice to him, since you can utterly embarrass him by getting Dr. Ramsey to praise him, which was the sole reason he started sabotaging you in the first place. The Mrs. Martinez storyline was so touching, and I loved the moment when her own son (grandson?) comes to the realization that his mother was much more happy in those final moments traveling than she ever was cooped up all alone in a hospital. Ethan’s development as a character and LI are also really well done, and the “forbidden romance” trope with him is tolerable for this book (though I suspect it will get annoying soon enough). All in all, I really do adore this book. Let’s hope the rest of the series gets similarly positive reviews…
