Is choice hotels points+cash broken? Has anyone booked a points and cash booking before.

I have tried three separate occasions (2018-2022) to do a points+cash booking with three different hotels and on multiple credit cards. Even mobile app, mobile browser, or desktop. But it has not work in any attempt. I get an error and to call. However when I call customer service they said they can only do full cash booking or points booking. You can buy points through points.com but the rates are much higher than if you did points+cash on the website.

Has anyone successfully booked points+cash? Or am I going crazy?
