Did they seriously sh*t the season finally over...

SpoilerDiscussion

Fucking not killing >!Ryan!< of all people? Seriously????

Show of hands, does anyone here give a single crumb of fuck if he had gotten killed. The final fight was completely contrived and subversive to the entire season in order to save >!Homelander!< . I mean I knew he was going to live, but this is the best they could come up with???? RED FLAG its amateur hour in the writing room!!!

Also, for a show that supposedly shits on Marvel/Disney tropes we literally got the exact same final scene in Infinity War where they hold down Thanos about to defeat him and Starlord lets him go. If you're going to shamelessly rip off Disney, at least don't pretend you're above them and that your own shit doesn't stink.

Also… if Soldier Boy explosion couldn’t kill Maeve it surely couldn’t kill Homelander either.

58
celihelpme•

I guess the idea is they can kill him after he’s depowered but it also means Ryan probably wouldn’t have died so the fights in the last episode were actually pointless

74
KleitosD06•

I mean they have no idea if it would kill Ryan or Homelander, it's not like they knew Maeve would survive. Even if they somehow did, Butcher still wouldn't want to risk it.

25
Textbookville•

Kimiko survived the blast and she's not even bullet proof - whilst we're all expecting maeve and homelander to have higher durability

9
vanbruntsCunt•

Frankly I had assumed until the finale that Kimiko survived the blast because her powers mean she heals and comes back to life, which made her an outlier.

Now I'm not so sure.

16
Cstl14•

Damn u right 💀

14
hgfed27•

It probably would have been a good thing for him actually. Turning into a regular kid so he can go to school and have friends, etc.

6
GarlVinland4Astrea•

It can depower him. If it can depower him they can just put a bullet in his brain right after

14
Cstl14•

So Ryan wouldn't have died and makes the fight even more pointless

7
GarlVinland4Astrea•
  1. They didn’t know if he would die so you can’t risk it and hope

  2. Ryan just got knocked out by getting pushed into a wall. He’s clearly not as strong as the powered up people here and he likely was a sitting duck who would die if he took something serious.

11
unclepoondaddy•

With Maeve it wasn't a focused blast, as with Kimikio. So it just depowered them

With the TNT twins and CC, it is a focused blast that first fries the V out of their system and then vaporizes them

9
Cstl14•

It was a giant ass freaking explosion, come on…

14
unclepoondaddy•

So then how did TNT twins and CC die from it?

They at least had some level of durability

5
Archive_Intern•

How did she survive the fall?

3
unclepoondaddy•

It didn't take the powers all at once? IDK

I didn't love Maeve living

6
Archive_Intern•

I like my room mates theory more

Apparently she assasin creed it

But instead of haystack its garbage bags

3
livinglegend25•

But it killed everybody, and I mean everybody at Herogasm.

7
Awestruck34•

Actually it only killed the people directly around it. There were lots of people who were only injured in Herogasm, Termite (before Homelander) and Love Sausage come to mind

5
phageslayer•

None of those supes were remotely comparable to Homelander. Kimiko took it point blank, someone like Homelander easily would have eaten it, Ryan too

Ryan shouldn’t have powers

1
Textbookville•

I don't think anyone expected the blast to kill homelander, since it didn't kill kimicko.

People were just anticipating he could lose powers, of which maeve herself did in fact lose her powers.

2
Cstl14•

So Ryan wouldn't have died and makes the fight even more pointless.

3
Textbookville•

What so now ryan as a 10-12 year old is now just as durable as homelander and maeve ?

1
NiklausElijah•

True, but the boys don't know that and Ryan's a kid, he'd probably die with anyone still in the building. Besides, SB had to go, unless we were just gonna fight 2 homelanders next season and Newman.

1
gauis12•

It could zap his power and then they can put a bullet in his head I thought that was always the plan

1
KevinCLawler•

Or Ryan, but it would’ve stripped them of their powers… soldier boy may have lived and then vkilled them, but I dunno… it was a pretty unsatisfying moment to see Maeve alive, which then made me question why’d she fuck it up like that.

Still enjoyed the episode overall, but that’s a sour spot on the series

1
Bobthehobnob•

I always just thought that Maeve landed on Soldier Boy, (who must've been knocked out by the fall. Although it is somewhat hard to believe that she held on to him during/after the blast.), and that she just made her way to that alley where she was picked up by The Boys.

1
stuntmanmike•

I can’t believe the guy whose entire motivation is based around his wife didn’t renege on his promise to her dying wish and let a child die!

stuntmanmike•

Becca would rather Ryan die than become someone like Homelander after what he did to her.

So you think Ryan is now a complete lost cause and you think what he might become justifies preemptively killing him and you think his mother would agree with that? Wild.

11
genkoOP•

Does anyone in the audience even care about Ryan? Like, seriously unironically genuinely care about the character? I thought his plotline got sidelined to be forgotten, but now he's literally the most important character in The Boys for no fucking reason.

-5
stuntmanmike•

I care about a child not being killed, yes and I care that Butcher cares. I also care that the conclusion to S2 not get flushed down the toilet in the subsequent season.

How is Homelander’s progeny and potential successor not important or relevant to the show to you?

I thought his plotline got sidelined to be forgotten

Now that would be some bad writing.

9
GarlVinland4Astrea•

I mean if you don’t care about Ryan, you kinda were shit out of look on this show since… well yjr very beginning. The reveal that he exists is the big twist of season 1, Becca sticking with him over Butcher and Homelander trying to get him back was the big arc of season 2 and it ended with Butcher losing his wife and promising to protect him.

And this season was bookended by Butcher tearing that relationship down and Homelander being able to swoop in and take Ryan.

He’s a central figure in the show and a clear motivator for the top 2 characters

5
cblack04•

Ok? Just because that’s the case doesn’t mean that’s what butcher is going to want or think in the moment.

2
TheLindberghBabie•

They definitely dropped the ball in a lot of ways with this finale but Ryan isn’t one of them imo. Ryan is the representation of hope and the next generation in the show

32
fartmaster279Ambrosius•

Ryan WAS the representation of hope in the show

3
TheLindberghBabie•

He still is. He’s a kid who made a bad choice. I think he’s supposed to also represent young guys falling down the alt right pipeline. Propaganda might push him but I think deep down he’s still becca’s kid

4
Knort27•

Final episode was a let down, just a lot of place shuffling, no actual development of..well, anything. I think Black Noir being dead is about it. Maeve's probably out of the story for good, but..yeah..kinda expected more to actually happen.

21
Sks44•

Loved this season. The final episode sucked.

19
Textbookville•

3 pointers

• As a 102 year old man, Soldier boy changed his mind about fatherhood real quick

• The starlight energy build up part was a ruined orgasm

• If maeve lost her powers mid-jump, how did she survive a 100ft drop without any injuries ?

13
spacebagelboi•

I think solider boy just mirrored what his dad did to him, probably because he doesn’t know anything else but definitely because he sucks

2
Textbookville•

Then why did he talk about fathering children for multiple episodes ?, and why did he tell homelander the situation had changed because of it ?

Sounds like a hole

They also made butcher look hypocritical asf, here he is worrying about a son he's not related to whilst telling SB to kill a son he's actually related to.

2
Roborted•

It looked to me like Soldier Boy was talking to himself basically when he called Homelander a disappointment.

1

So i like to think that 1 there have been rare cases where pilots have jumped out of planes and survived great distances, 2 she may have hit trees on the way down or landed into a dumpster(all of which they should have flashed back and shown, maybe even have her in a wheel chair), or 3 the blast explosion upward stalled her fall velovity so she didn't hit the ground at a terminal velocity. With all of that said, they should have had some logic behind it and she should have been absolutely broken up, but I truly believe they were afraid of showing her in a wheel chair or not self dependent because she is lgbtq and the writers know that the heterosexual community will shake their head but not cancel the show, whereas if you piss off LGBTQ they will focus all their life's energy on making you regret that decision. TBH when dealing with extremists this is often the case, look at south park and their Muhammad episodes being pulled. Unfortunately our entertainment is steered by the squeaky wheel, not the true fans who will hold on even if shit displeases us. If the Hetero community became more of a group of bullies, they may get their way more often, much like they did in the 50's. Just the changing of times and the passing of the guard. Get used to it, everything will have BLM and LGBTQ's stamp of approval on it before its released, that's life now, look at the new lotr series from amazon lmao. Wait till it enters video games. Winter is coming...

AvatarDangSoldier Boy•

What i don’t understand is apparently Soldier Boy’s power isn’t even deadly, it just takes people’s powers and destroys the environment. So in reality wouldn’t it be the perfect scenario to have Soldier Boy do his blast with everyone in the room and homelander, ryan etc etc lose their powers?

11
unclepoondaddy•

You literally saw it kill 3 different people

If he focuses it, its still a nuclear blast. With the Twins and CC, we see it depower and then kill them

6
AvatarDangSoldier Boy•

Yeah, but it doesn’t kill Maeve or Kimiko. Why? I mean, Maeve was literally holding on to him while he had the biggest blast we’d seen.

Does the power just pick and choose? Kimiko is probably on par with SB’s old team as far as strength goes.

10
RicardosMontalban•

The power doesn’t pick and choose, the writers do. Maeve living presents so many logical flaws i really don’t know why they pulled a fake out when she’s just bailing to a farm anyways.

For a brilliant season this finale was truly disappointing. Retroactively effects my perception of the season.

7
AvatarDangSoldier Boy•

I really wish she died. Especially since like you said, she’s just going and retiring on a farm. But instead, her living makes everything seem a little off.

Also, probably nitpicky but my god why does it seem like SB’s blast takes longer each time he needs to use it. Felt like he was charging this up for hours during that fight.

5
catfink1664•

She’s maybe going to be running the farm where ryan gets to grow up in even more clark kent similarity

1
nighyjr•

Doesn't Maeve have some sort of durability though, she survived Homelander lasering her so that's why it was how she didn't get burnt to a crisp

1
AvatarDangSoldier Boy•

Sure, but to survive a near death beating from homelander and soldier boy’s blast so soon after? She was weakened significantly from that, i don’t understand how soldier boy’s blast wouldn’t kill her in that state.

2
JungyBrungun•

Soldier Boys power works however the writers need it to work at the time, sometimes it will depower you like with Maeve or Kimiko, and sometimes it will kill you like with the TNT twins

3
genkoOP•

Yes, they even show this no less than 5 minutes later. How did no one in the editing room notice this massive plot hole?

2
unclepoondaddy•

You didn't pay attention to how the beam works

-1
genkoOP•

The power is literally inconsistent AT BEST

5
unclepoondaddy•

I mean not really. It's a radiation based power (we see the Geiger counter)

They say it fries the V out of the system first. Then continued exposure while powerless vaporizes you

I guess they didn't draw a diagram but it's not super unclear

2
GarlVinland4Astrea•

Not really. He killed a bunch of people in down town Manhattan and a bunch of supes at herogasm.

He only failed to kill Maeve who is one of the strongest supes in the series and Kimiko who has a massive regeneration factor that probably saved her from most of the damage before she was completely depowered.

Ryan absolutely would have died considering he just got knocked out from being pushed into a wall, and any human left in the building including all the Boys but Butcher.

Even in Maeve’s case there is the wiggle room that we actually didn’t see what happened after the fall.

Homelander was the only person guaranteed to survive a blast of that magnitude. Also you can’t assume the characters actually know it.

2
Life1989•

That depends by the supe, some gets depowered and others die. Maeve was part of the 7, the elite of supes so it’s logical she could tank a point blank blast, she’s not ur ordinary supe like those at herogasm. Can’t say ryan could’ve tanked it tho since he’s still young and his powers are theoretically still in developement (although he could knock out SB with lasers), but butcher didn’t want to take the risk

2
AvatarDangSoldier Boy•

Makes sense. I don’t really fault Butcher for not taking the risk, bc i also don’t think it’s something he’d even think of in the moment. But as an audience member, watching Maeve survive, and Kimiko earlier in the season, it’s just not as deadly as you would think.

It’s almost as if it can’t kill main characters lmao.

2
Midas_Maximillion•

It killed Crimson Countess. And like 7 supes at herogasm. And a bunch of civilians in that building he blew up. It should have killed Maeve in my opinion.

2
AvatarDangSoldier Boy•

I think it should have too. I like maeve, but that seems unrealistic, considering how close she was to the blast. On top of already being pretty beat up from homelander.

1
Midas_Maximillion•

She should have either died from the blast or from the fall.

1
skitz20Soldier Boy•

Plus Ryan seems to have a lot of durability

2
spacebagelboi•

There’s nothing to suggest it’d take their powers anyway because they’re natural born supes, it’s not frying the v out of them

1
AvatarDangSoldier Boy•

Is maeve not natural born? Or kimiko? It fried their powers?

1
spacebagelboi•

Huh no they’re def not, only Ryan and homelander are

1
AzianEclipse•

Did you see how big the explosion, even if they were just only depowered, chances are the explosion would cause the building to crash down.

1
AvatarDangSoldier Boy•

i mean apparently holding onto soldier boy after getting her ass beat by homelander and falling 100 stories to the ground wasn’t enough to kill maeve.

So who knows at this point what kills who.

1
AzianEclipse•

I will admit that that past was pretty BS, they should've just killed her off, or had black noir die stopping soldier boy.

1
[deleted]•

They should have hired the guys responsible for the fight against Thanos tho, though it was so much better, with better choreography and background music.

The fights on The Boys are very underwhelming when it is Supes Vs Supes.

There were so many amazing things that they could have done there.

Starlight's powers are a joke, SoldierBoy's explosion was shitty, Homelander seems overrated since Maeve could fight him for so long, actually, Maeve surviving is trash, Homelander getting out because Ryan asked and not doing what is logical for the character which is to try to kill everybody there but the little one and maybe Butcher, is very annoying and makes no sense.

What about the Novichok? are we going to hear about the deaths of hundreds in the next season?

It seems like Amazon decided to make The Boys a bigger series than it should be, making as many episodes as possible following the recipe of Supernatural. Unfortunately for those who wanted a perfect series with good build-up and a proper ending.

9
genkoOP•

That's why everyone should tell them to get off their high horse. If they're going to constantly shit on Disney at least have the balls to do it better instead they unironically ripped off Disney and did it worse on every single metric.

Straight up clown show in the writing room

1

Yep they are going to milk it for 2-3 seasons next.Wrjters are too afraid to kill off anyone it's obvious.

2
Goldstar12•

First off since when was Mave implied to be that strong. She did more damage to Homelander than Butcher, Hugie and SB. Here sacrifice was great only to find out she somehow survived not only the fall but the explosion that took her power away. To top it off she gets a cheesey good ending oof.

7
[deleted]•

[deleted]

4
GarlVinland4Astrea•

Maeve was clearly implied to be one of the strongest supes alive and probably just a tier below Homelander. She’s also better trained than virtually everyone there and has spent months specifically training to face Homelander in a fight.

It was presented as Maeve being able to hold her own, Homelander being able to put power her, but Maeve being able to use fighting skill to keep at it. At no point was Homelander really in danger from her

2
purpletree300•

At first, Homelander was just trying to get her out of the way and didn't want to attack full-on but after a while, I assume Homelander was fighting to his fullest extent to kill Maeve and she held him back for a while and although she suffered more injury compared to SB and Butcher in their fights against HL, she still drew blood from his nose and ears which is more than Butcher, SB, and Hughie managed which was a bruise.

2
SatansOvenMittzz•

Why does everyone hate a literal child he’s being manipulated ffs. Y’all are too hype about an innocent kid getting murdered. Freaking weird.

7

Innocent kid? That kid can kill everyone on the planet when he grow up. It’s like if you go back in time and see “kid hitler” and you are like, if I make his childhood happy he might become a good person and lead Germany to a golden age of prosperity and advancement. SHUT THE FUCK UP! it’s “kid hitler” be done with. As my man Kanye says: “No one man should have all that power”

-6
spacebagelboi•

Why would they kill Ryan when butchers entire arc has been about protecting him lmao? And it’s Homelanders only redeeming quality? This would’ve been the weirdest least plausible choice that absolutely nothing in the series hinted remotely would happen as it’s all about protecting and finding family, even if it’s a family you choose. SB chose to be alone because it’s what noir said, he’s just bad, there’s nothing else there. Also Ryan is the key to the HL arc because he’s the only person more powerful than him. SB couldn’t even kill Maeve.

4
Roborted•

If they killed Ryan, Homelander would just genocide the Earth. Then what?

1
typoscript•

"but Butcher had to keep his promise to Becca"

Becca would rather Ryan dies than becomes like Homelander. If you're Butcher and you watch Ryan grab you then laser beam someone else to defend HL, prioritizing killing HL is STILL protecting Ryan.

16

-4
unclepoondaddy•

How's that gonna work? They clearly need every supe they got to hold Homelander back. If he or Maeve leave with Ryan, he's escaping and catching them. Ryan is also homelander's priority

5
GarlVinland4Astrea•

No she wouldn’t lol. If Becca’s options were watch Homelander leave with Ryan or have Butcher kill both of them at once, she would do everything in power to stop Butcher.

8
spacebagelboi•

Well it’s clear Homelander will love Ryan no matter what, and it’s his only redeeming trait, Ryan deserves a chance at happiness and he’s just a kid, killing him isn’t remotely protecting him from anything lmao and Becca wouldn’t rather shit, she literally says it’s not his fault as she’s dying because he’s a kid

1

It was still frustrating.we expected butcher to fight with homelander that's the whole point of this show but instead they make soldier boy a complete evil cunt who wants to kill his grandson .

1

I feel offended by the writing, the entire thing was a wheel spinning, best illustrated by Kimiko losing her powers then gaining them back; V24 being a tool to match Supes and having nothing done with it; A-Train having his fucking heart translpanted so that he's powerful again (soap opera tier); Maeve dying and then not dying; Soldier Boy being is stasis at the beginning and going back under at the end. It's so fucking bad. Think I'm done with the show. I wish it was made by Koreans.

Amen! PLS someone, anyone get Seth Rogan some actual writers in the writing room!!!!

Trashbagman_-•

One of the big things i was worried about was black noir getting shafted out of the show. They made it clear that even to some supes he’s a fuckin unit on his own. So how tf do they just bullshit his way out of the series?? I did however like when homelander was like “i can see your literal face, i see your battle scars, that crooked smile” but i just felt they missed the mark when noir was writing “BAD” he should’ve just taken off his mask & pointed at his fucked up face like “THIS IS WHY SOLDIER BOY IS BAD”

Queen maeve putting up her own fight was amazing to me, it went almost how i expected it too, shs is strong as fuck so for her to be throwing homelander around is acceptable to me.

Me personally i wouldve been shitty if ryan died. Like i wouldve accepted it but i still wouldve felt bad for the little bugger. Throughout the season when he would show up you could see this cold depression oozing from him. It was hella sad, especially when he was talking to kimiko.

Am i the only one confused about hughie? Like he definitely took like 3 doses of that temp v shit, & they shown butchers consequences so am i just guessing hughie gets off scot free?

2
DoYouNeedHugs•

Yeah I’m hoping they killed him early just to surprise us later.

2

All that fight was was just a way to show how much of a hateful, sarcastic asshole Soldier Boy truly is. As soon as he started talking like his father, it was game on. There was so many warning signs or foreshadowing before the fight that it actually made it funny to watch.

1
