Background check... is my debt an issue?

I recently took out a loan to consolidate debt of me/spouse and now the entire burden is on me, credit-wise.

If I'm getting a background check for a new job handling lots of money, is it just a criminal check or are they gonna see my huge debt and freak out? I pay all my stuff on time and we are on the right path. FICO was 700 before I took out the loan.

I recently murdered someone and my credit score was unaffected. You should be fine.

If they ask for your permission to check your credit and grant it, they are most likely looking to see if you have a terrible credit score or a bankruptcy. I doubt a reasonable amount of debt would matter. Say you've got a $500k mortgage and $100k consumer debt. No problem. In fact, good, because you'll definitely need to keep your job to pay your debt.

I guess it might depend on timing? For a brief moment, it would have been over $100k personally. And of course I turned the money around to pay those bills so I'm sitting on $90k at the moment. I have a road plan set out but it just looks really bad. If I got an offer, I might have to say 2 weeks and then not tell my current job until it looks like no issues.

probably not. I think at most is that you will not be able to work any engagement related to your lender.
