Sincerely, a Puppet Child

Poem

This house never listens, treats you gone and dead

Filled with words of what the next person does and did

Mother never listens, always blows my sadness as nothing

Never mind my frowning, it is only good for hiding

Father always hears but doesn’t often make a stand

For what mother says goes, and I am nothing but a puppet

Trapped in a nest, a haven they call our safe keeping

They tattle their promises of soon, and very soons

Of me treading alone and on my own, and that’s the thing

I fear, for what could a puppet do but do as its told

Yesterday could have been the time, today, I had hoped

I have grown sick of tomorrow’s broken promises of soons

For what could a puppet do when its strings are cut and gone?
