Poem

there’s a girl woman with hair straight as compass stars driven to evening in the west, those browns, those irises rich as wood a pyre for burning down misery

where green ends life dies but

she decays unhappiness
upends the shape of things life gifted in her endless strands

a reflection to eternity my eyes in a locked devotional safekeeping

at night she fashions a key from her lips

unlocks

let’s me out into it all

but
                     again

shockingly

								i am not shocked.

                                       the safety is turned

off
off
off

i am lashed.
in tongue fixins with all the extras to dwell on

later

in the unsure night
assured between the poles of compass minds

a glassy-incisor
					oscillating farsighted nearsighted with
                                           murder tear tattoos

dramatic ironing board
flattening even my idiocy
i have never so much as

ideas loosed.
the kind crying plastic
lavishly lent

not kind

will not rewind

laughing anachronism
shit picture
shit sound
plot
a memory spit

slapped-bruise cheek decision of

rushing
                                                    dragging

			rushing

dragging

whatever the fuck of it all

only just remembered to start forgetting

throw it in the

 mississippi
from my window

over the

                                     over the

over

breathe in the Shreveport mural

all mine
all those beautiful ones before.

i stand
       inside
        broken
concrete

warm to the touch

humid to the tongue
tastes
like a city breathing
ruined
holy
water
                                                     and I smile

                                                               and i
