How much has windsurf boards changed in the last 10 years?

I'm looking to buy a used windsurf board and I'm debating between a 2013 Goya Quad Custom and a 2021 Goya One 3 Pro. The seller is asking 3x more for the 2021 board so I'm wondering if boards have changed enough to warrant paying that extra premium.

The board condition is pretty much identical.

Wave boards in larger sizes have become considerably better than 10 years ago. The custom quad is also completely different to the one 3. The one 3 is a lot more forgiving and easier to ride than the quad. The quad will be more radical on the wave though.

The Goya One 3 is however one of the better performing free wave boards on the market right now.

Those two boards are gonna be apples and oranges. Honestly just look at what type of sailing you're gonna do. If you're just going coastal blasting with the occasional wave ride, bump'n'jump stuff ..get the One3 If you're gonna be doing dedicated wave sailing, get the Quad

In recent freewaves it's going to be thruster and having more wave oriented freewaves than a freewave of 10 years ago. In a quad probably not so much difference.

If you have to ask, don't get a quad, they need skills you'll build better on a freewave.

The 2021 One3 is an excellent free wave board, it is my daily driver - very fast, great for jumping, early planing, and smashing through shore break. It won't disappoint you.

As others have pointed out, the 2013 Custom 4 is a more specialised wave board. I'd also say that indeed great improvements have been made in terms of early planing, maneuverability etc since 2013.

  1. Have you seen my test page? http://windsurfing.lepicture.com/board-tests/ There are tests from mid 2000s to 2020 boards. They are all different, some similar but rarely!

  2. A Goya custom quad from 2013 was quite a versatile board but still best in a wave environment. While the One model is more all around. Volume plays a big role too.

  3. Boards change and evolve, price has very little to do with performance in our sport! I currently use 26yo+ sails and my favorite board is an 07.

  4. Construction seems to be weaker, there are certainly worse years than others depending on model. So watch for that.

damn, I just got off the water last night with my '09 FSW and I was thinking to myself, "I think the 06-07 model was just about perfect..."

😁

In fact, the answer to this question is quite obvious. Every product, everything, has increased in value over the last ten years. Since windsurfing is becoming more and more popular, the manufacturers of different surfboards are raising their prices based on the materials used to make these same boards. If you are so interested in surfboard pricing, check out https://easy-surfshop.com/do/cat/windsurfing-boards/Windsurf-Boards . Here you will find a huge range of boards for every taste and color, as well as possibly pick up something for yourself. Good luck to you!
