You don't think there's a postmodern misanthropic suicidal culture that is widespread and evangelized in the literary world? I do. I like poetry, I even like some "bad" poetry.  I like poets, I like having *some* poets as company *occasionally*.  But, ngl, I prefer to be around other hobbies and other professions. Engineers, for instance, are far more likely to have a childlike eagerness to understand how things work and why they are the way they are. They also like challenges and an opportunity to work together to make the world a better (or more fun) place.

Happiness for an engineer is explaining to a kid how a hydrofoil works while they are both standing on a rocky beach in the Greek Isles. Happiness for a poet is nobody else around them and a noose around their neck "for inspiration."

I don't think everyone writes poems on dark topics like these, it's just that poetry is a way to express things we'd never say out loud or we just can't. It's an art form used to cope. So no, I don't think poetry makes us hate ourselves. I think it helps us to slowly regain what was lost.

The pews, I presume, are a funeral. The subject is suicide. I wonder if *poetry* make us hate ourselves or if poetry *attracts* those who hate themselves. What *is it* about this artform? It used to be love, death, flowers, and paths in the forest untaken. Now it seems it's mostly death, self-inflicted.

If that's the subject, could you at least dig a little deeper? Who cut you up? Why is the world selfish? You lied? Wow. No way? To whom? Why? Have other humans lied and disappointed, too, without attaching a rock to their third leg on the bank of a snake infested river? What do they have that poets don't?

I'm a fan of visual structure in poetry, and this is structured in a very satisfying way. I like the repetition at the beginning of some of the lines like "I'm" and "Will". Again, it's visually satisfying to me. Content-wise, the line "One day from now you'll see me more" hit pretty close to home. Nice work.

This poem made me feel sympathy for those in my life who have hurt me, knowing they live with guilt and shame. As I read the end I told myself yes, I will, and do cry for them and their pain. Thank you for sharing and keep writing!

I really liked this, I can relate to the empty feeling and feeling like I'm all alone in the world. The apologizing hits hard, it sucks to have to apologize for feeling so helpless and sad. Good job!

Wow. The first and last line are incredible. The rhyme is so simple yet jostling. I like how you're talking from the perspective of a dead person, it makes me think about my relationship to the living right now. I also appreciate the stark difference between total hatred and an apologetic stance. Bravo.

Writing a poem about death calls for a lot of emotion, but self-death is a more intricate subject and can be hard to communicate to readers. 

I agree with others saying it's dark cause it is and the visual imagery is absolutely stunning and beautiful. Well done!

Beautiful poem, I like the apologies. They show the sadness and guilt that burdens so many people at the end of their lives, leaving them neither happy with themselves nor the world

This is a very brave poem, to say the least. If you are feeling this way, or have ever felt this way -- know that you are not alone! There are many of us who bottle our feelings deep within and it does cascade out as poetry at times. You write very well and must post more.

Not a human like me

Couldn’t make it in life, cut me all up and left me for dead

I’m sorry but the only way out is to have died
