I just ran over an owl and I feel terrible.

I'm Mexican and my family thinks owls are witches. Me personally I don't buy into that but I feel bad regardless. I was driving down a dark road and I saw a bird on the road. Typical birds always fly away but this time I saw it to late and though I saw it's wing flap open it never took flight and I couldn't stop in time. I feel so bad.

These things happen. People never WANT to hit animals with cars. Don't let it weigh too heavily upon you.

That being said, if you want to help, take the opportunity to make a difference. Owls are not witches. They are birds. They are cool, interesting birds, but they are just birds. If you still find them frightening, take comfort in the fact that they're very stupid and delicate and they need your help.

It's more of an issue in India than the western hemisphere, but owls are still killed because of stupid, baseless superstitions. There's probably an organization in your area working to rehab animals or at least raise awareness of the issues they face. Besides direct human threats, owls are also vulnerable to secondhand dangers like window collisions and rodenticide poisonings.
