Do you feel bad to kill insects/bugs?

My mom always feels bad when killing a bug/insect and tries to release it back outside if she can, but I never understood it. She says that its another life; a living being that's being killed in your hands. But I on the other hand never thought of it that way and never cared. I just continued on with life cause I never saw that being such a big deal, but I wonder how others feel. Is not feeling sorry a brutal thing? I care about other animals but when it comes to bugs I don't care.
