Returning player, needing advice and direction
I have decided to start playing this game again after a very long time. My account is 4 and some years old, and I've popped in a few times over the years, but this time I think I'll stick around more as I'm tired of other game types. I have fond memories of this one and especially crusaders of the lost idols, which I played extensively.
Due to my inactivity, I've only got these champions to play with: https://ic.byteglow.com/r/wHGzpUCuolG5rUsSoBvoS
I'm trying to get back into the understanding of how to create good formations, but I just can't seem to even get close to my former ability. My free plays end up still <1% when I try them and I'm not sure if it's because of things like Krull and Zorbu being overhauled because I remember relying on them heavily. I've been keeping up with many of the changes via Gaarwar and Reddit, but I just can't seem to get the needed momentum to gain favor. Note, though I have Azaka, I stopped before getting Dragonbait and I've never used Azaka and therefore never did a deep run that way. Maybe this is the key and just go hog-wild using potions? I'm looking for some assistance, if some could be given.
Here is my default free play formation: https://ic.byteglow.com/f/1_38022b0d1901053309_2121221112
My short term goals are to get Dragonbait and explore the new campaigns for evergreens, get event champions, keep using time gates for notable additions (just got Avren) and do StP1. Yet, I feel like I lost my edge on formations even though I know how they work and I'm familiar enough with my current champions (new ones aside) to build a functioning formation.
I know I can still progress since I can easily knock out a Mirt free play to level 250 and my last Barovia requires only 200, but I'm just unsure of my formations in general.
Any help and insight is greatly appreciated.

Check my commend about Zorbu, Krond, and Asharra. Who will be your main DPS?
Zorbu typically, but I'm not sure if he's still reliable. Seems that he can be though, referring to your comment
He is still perfectly usable. However, there are two problems:
Since you are not a total newbie, you can also choose Artemis. He is approximately equivalent to Krond, and can provide slightly higher peak BUD at the price of being more picky about his party composition and requiring more micromanagement. From my experience, it is also a bit more difficult to get him going than Krond.
Thank you for the advice. I appreciate you taking the time to give me some direction
Once you choose, it will determine your recruitment queue for the next several months.
Have another question for you, if you have the time to share your wisdom.
Like many other gamers, I keep up with Epic's free games and I claimed their recent deal for Baeloth because free is free and it may never come back. Better to have it for the future. Well, I got to looking today at what my Epic account I guess I grabbed a pack a long time ago for other freebies, which I slightly remember.
The pictures of champions will be below and there is an obvious difference, but I noticed that I get 3 familiars on Epic that I won't get on Steam and a mage hand in an hour or so after I make sure to pick up Valentine. With familiars being so important to modron, which I don't have yet, I wonder if the familiars alone are worth "restarting" on Epic since my ilevels aren't that high on Steam. Also, Epic has those delicious speed champs I don't have on Steam. I'd loose quite a bit, like my Zorbu progress and quite a few retired champs, but I don't mind the progression loss as I enjoy the progression.

Steam also has 200 or so silver chests and a few champion specific silver chests.

In my place, if you were only going to play one account, which would you play if you had no great sentimental attachment to either?
It's debatable. I'd say, extra champions you have on Steam account have approximately the same worth as extra gear on a few key champions on EGS account. On Steam you are close to unlocking Split the Party 2.
The most important champion on EGS is Hew Maan, and their shinies landed on relatively useless items, although they do have purple item #4.
IMHO, I'd keep playing on Steam.
