I hadn’t thought of it that way! You’re giving me far too much credit! In this particular case, I was writing about how I was feeling personally, wishing to never be touched. 

I will try to keep that untouched, natural idea for future haikus. 🤔

such a simple sweet haiku, i feel like it encaptures so many possible feelings and emotions and could be interpreted in so many different ways. are we looking at a cacti wishing we could be untouched like them, or are we using the cactus to describe how we are feeling in our own context.

I love a Haiku because when done correctly they can be so striking and powerful. This poem spoke to me about SA, abuse, and the feelings someone goes through when they see themselves as vulnerable AND accomplished all that in only 3 lines.

There is always a difficulty with expressing more with less but in this haiku, you've done that very easily. It's very easy to understand and relate to, not just because it's short, but there's so many interpretations to relate to. It isn't confined to one perspective, but rather it molds itself to the reader. Well done! Thank you for posting, I enjoyed it.

I’m not sure if you’re just trying to bring to light all the different animals that will eat/“touch” cacti, but thank you. I had intended for my haiku to refer to humans, but it’s good to know that interpretation isn’t as closed as I thought it had been. Thank you for your time, research, and reading!

"Javelinas, also known as collared peccaries, use their tusks to tear apart cacti and eat all parts of it. Javelinas eat all cacti parts, everything from the fruit to the spines."

"There exist different animals that eat cactus. They include but are not limited to woodrats, camels, birds, iguanas, tortoises, beetles, and jackrabbits. Even human beings eat cactus. Such animals have developed certain mechanisms to ensure they don't get hurt from the thorns or toxicity from the cacti toxins."

"She observed that rabbits, and numerous other gnawing rodent-type pests, will eat cacti in her yard, sometimes even very spiny ones, under desert summer conditions."
